易升华。微溶于水，溶于乙醇、苯、乙醚、二硫化碳、苛性碱溶液，三氯化碳、四氯化碳等有机溶剂，微溶于冷石油醚。溶液微黄色或棕橙色，与Co3+、Ru3+、ZrO2+、Fe2+等生成红或蓝色得微溶于水的配合物，可为三氯甲烷、四氯化碳萃取。

用途二:该品经磺化、重氮化、硝化可得到6-硝基-2,1-羟基重氮萘-4-磺酸。也称6-硝基-1,2-重氮氧基萘-4-磺酸，是酸性媒介黑染料的中间体。该品是测定钴、钯、铜和铁的试剂。
方法一:由β-萘酚经亚硝化而得。将β-萘酚、水氢氧化钠搅拌使其溶解。冷却后加亚硝酸钠，过滤，滤液冷却至0℃以下，在搅拌下，温度不超过0℃，连续滴加10%的盐酸至刚果红试纸变蓝为止。搅拌0.5h后过滤，用水洗至氯离子不大于自来水中的氯离子为止，再用蒸馏水及乙醇洗一次，滤出结晶，再经精制而得成品。
