方法一:由戊烷氯化而得。先将戊烷用氯化氢脱水，在蒸发器中蒸发后，在生铁制的文丘里型混合器中，以2000dm3的高流速与0.55MPa压力的氯气混合，控制温度50℃，再将混合气送入管式蒸发器的反应器中。戊烷与氯气摩尔比为15：1。反应器温度在蒸汽进口处为120℃，渐次上升到300℃。生成物立即送进冷却器中冷却，以抑制二氯戊烷的生成。生成物由未反应的戊烷、氯化氢、氯戊烷和少量二氯戊烷组成。经冷却、分馏除去氯化氢、戊烷，即得1-氯戊烷成品。另一种制法是由戊醇与氯化氢反应先用盐酸溶解氯化锌，然后加入戊醇，在120℃回流3h后进行蒸馏，所得粗品经洗涤、分馏，收集106-109℃馏分即为成品。
