用途一:拟肾上腺素药物甲氧非那明的中间体。
方法一:邻甲氧基苯甲醛经缩合、还原、水解而得。将邻甲氧基苯甲醛、硝基乙烷、甲苯和正丁胺搅拌混匀，升温蒸出甲苯和水，直至脱水量达理论值止。然后加入水、铁粉和三氯化铁，升温至回流，滴加盐酸。滴加毕，保持回流1h，过滤，滤液加甲苯提取。提取液用亚硫酸氢钠液洗涤后减压蒸馏，收集128℃（2.0kPa）馏分，得2-甲氧基苯基丙酮。收率53%。
